If you’ve been meaning to try the Gulf Islands Ferry, this is your sign. They just added a brand new boat, the Manatee Belle, and it definitely feels like the ferry has hit its moment. We took it over to Bridge Street for an easy day of exploring, and it’s one of those things that’s just… well, fun!
The ride is kind of the best part
You board at the Riverwalk, grab a seat, and within minutes you’re out on the water. No rush, no stress, just a smooth ride through the Manatee River and into the intercoastal. It takes about 50 minutes, but it honestly feels shorter because you’re just sitting there relaxing and taking it all in.

What’s new about the Gulf Island Ferry to Anna Maria: The Manatee Belle
This is the part that’s actually new. The ferry has been running with two boats for a while, but now there are three vessels total, and the newest one, the Manatee Belle, is noticeably different.
It’s larger, with 91 additional seats
It has an enclosed, climate-controlled cabin
It’s designed to run more reliably, even with changing weather
Basically, it makes the whole experience easier to plan and more comfortable once you’re on board. And you can feel the difference. The enclosed cabin with air conditioning and added protection from the elements makes the ride comfortable no matter the weather.
Step right off onto Bridge Street
This is why the Anna Maria Gulf Island Ferry works so well. Step off right at Bridge Street and you’re instantly in it. Shops, restaurants, the pier, bay views, everything within a few steps. No agenda needed. Just walk, wander, grab a drink, pop into a few stores, maybe hop on the trolley if you feel like exploring more. It’s an easy way to spend a few hours without overthinking it.

It's still one of the best values around
The ferry isn’t brand new, but the Manatee Belle kind of makes it feel like it is. It’s smoother, easier, and just a really good way to spend part of your day whether you’re visiting or local. Round trip is about $11 for adults ($7 one-way), which feels kind of wild for what you’re getting. It’s basically a scenic boat ride, something fun to do, and your transportation all rolled into one. If you haven’t done it yet, this is the time.
A few things to know
Sit outside if you can, it’s the best view
The new boat has indoor seating if you want AC
Book ahead on weekends now that more people are catching on
It runs Wednesday through Sunday with multiple departure times
